[Warded to Self]
It does bother me that Evans (Lily is much too lovely a name for her to have) was the one that discovered how to ward messages to specific people. Not that I would want to be known for something so silly, but I'm unsure why she feels the need to figure out everything. She must overcompensating for her unfortunate background. It's not as if I have anyone to send messages to anyway

Mother wrote me about Dylan, who has started dating a mudblood. Mum, bless her, is much too maternal to condemn him, although her mention of it at all shows that she's not completely in the dark. What is the point of having children if they're just going to embarrass you? Mother did absolutely nothing with her intelligence and potential and what has she to show for it? A blood traitor for a son and rude youngest daughter who hopes to be in Gryffindor. There's myself, of course, but two disappointments outweigh one respectable child. I'm really beginning to think that it's not worth it.

Goodness, it's been quite a long time since I last wrote in this. The first month of school always passes so quickly. I was fortunate enough to have stopped taking Ancient Runes my fourth year because I was terrible at it but I still found myself occupied without the essay. I do hope that everyone did a splendid job on that, by the way.

Despite the increased activity level that comes with returning to Hogwarts, the last twenty-three days have been fairly uneventful for me. Mother sent me letters and some books she picked up and Efa sent me a rude sweet little note. It's hard to believe that she'll be in Hogwarts next year.

I am debating charming this journal a different colour. I rather like black, it's so very timeless, but there's also something nice about personalisation. Don't you agree?

Having students keep journals is an inspired idea, although, personally, I haven't kept a diary since I was a little girl. I didn't touch this one until just now, as I thought it would be best to wait for directions. Headmaster Dumbledore's words, vague as they were, seem to qualify as such. Moreover, I'll admit I was curious after hearing rumours that entries could be read by everyone.

Oh, I am being called! I suppose I will have to save writing more for another time.
